Update bios without cpu lsr devastator jan 17, 2017, 8:45 am hi, i have z170 maximus viii ranger and i7-7700k i need to update the bios for the cpu to work is there any way to update the bios. Also, you can't update a bios without a compatable cpu, as you need to get into the bios to update it. just seen you've already tried it. i'd get hold of a celeron g1820 and use that to boot into the bios and update it, then just swap out the cpu for the one you've bought and return the celeron for a refund.. 1. find a 8th gen cpu from someone to borrow only to update the bios, to do that you need to assemble them then apply the paste for the cpu cooler installation, and update bios, then disassemble them to be assembled again and put thermal paste again. you waste your time, energy and thermal paste. 2. cancle the order..
For your motherboard, you need both cpu/ram that are supported by the motherboard to update the bios. some motherboards does have a feature that allow you to update the bios without a cpu and ram (e.g. asus flashback, gigabyte q-flash plus) but sadly, your motherboard isn't one of them.. 2. rename the bios file and save it to root folder on the usb storage device. download the “bios renamer for usb bios flashback and crashfree bios 2” tool, which you’ll find in the “bios-utilities” section of your motherboard’s support page.. Some premium asus z170 motherboards include usb bios flashback, which enables firmware updates without a cpu or memory installed. this feature is perfect for updating motherboards to work with next-gen cpus they don’t yet support, especially if you cannot borrow a current 6th generation processor to do #1..
