I was able to get the kindle upgraded to 3.4, but now when i try the 3.4.2 upgrade the "update your kindle" option is greyed out. i made sure to get the correct b006 files and follow the directions amazon gives, but still nothing.. Kindle keyboard software updates the latest software version for kindle keyboard is 3.4.2. this update automatically downloads and installs on your kindle keyboard when connected wirelessly; however, you can also manually download the software and transfer the update to your device via usb cable.. My kindle itself works perfectly fine, it's just unable to update its software. i wouldn't call that a bricked kindle. besides, restarting the kindle with the un/install .bin on it was bound to fail, as i've read in other threads..
